In a recent announcement, the Passport Seva Portal, the primary online platform for Indian passport services, will be temporarily inaccessible for five days starting today, August 29, 2024. The portal is set to undergo essential technical maintenance, which will disrupt its operations until September 2, 2024.

According to a notice issued on the portal’s official website, the maintenance work is scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM IST on August 29, 2024, and will continue until 6:00 AM IST on September 2, 2024. During this period, the Passport Seva Portal will be entirely inaccessible to all users, including Indian citizens and various government agencies. This includes the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Regional Passport Offices (RPOs), the Bureau of Immigration (BOI), Internet Service Providers (ISPs), the Department of Posts (DoP), and local police authorities.

The announcement specifies that all services provided through the Passport Seva Portal will be disrupted during this maintenance period. This includes the ability to book appointments for new passport applications, renew existing passports, and access other related services such as tracking application status and updating personal details. Additionally, the notice highlights that all appointments scheduled for August 30, 2024, will be rescheduled. The authorities have assured that affected applicants will be notified about the new dates for their appointments as soon as the portal is back online and operational.

The Passport Seva Portal, accessible at passportindia.gov.in, is a critical tool for Indian citizens seeking passport-related services. It allows users to book appointments, track application status, and receive updates on their passport processes.

Once the maintenance is complete, users will be able to resume booking appointments and accessing the portal’s full range of services. The authorities are working to ensure that the technical issues are resolved promptly to minimise the disruption to users.

For now, individuals who had appointments scheduled during the maintenance window are advised to wait for further instructions regarding rescheduling. In the meantime, those in need of immediate assistance with passport-related issues are encouraged to visit their nearest Regional Passport Office or contact the relevant authorities directly.
