Namibia to Launch New Visa on Arrival System from April 2025

The Namibian Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security has confirmed that its visa application process for travelers from countries not eligible for visas on arrival will remain unchanged. These travelers must continue to apply in advance via the Ministry’s online platform and await approval before entering Namibia. However, starting 1 April 2025, Namibia will implement a new visa on arrival system, offering greater convenience for travelers from 90 countries, including 28 African and 62 non-African nations.

Visa Application Options

Visitors to Namibia will have two options for obtaining a visa:

  • Online Application: Travelers can apply in advance through Namibia’s eVisa portal. The processing time is approximately five working days, making it a convenient option for those who prefer to finalize their travel documents before departure.
  • Visa on Arrival: Eligible travelers can obtain their visa upon arrival at designated ports of entry, including major airports and border posts.

Ports of Entry for Visa on Arrival

Travelers eligible for the visa on arrival system can obtain their visa at the following locations:

  • Airports: Hosea Kutako International Airport (Windhoek) and Walvis Bay International Airport (Walvis Bay).
  • Border Posts & Harbors: Ariamsvlei, Impalila, Katima Mulilo, Mohembo, Ngoma, Noordoewer, Oshikango, Oranjemund, Trans-Kalahari Border Posts, and Walvis Bay Harbour.

Required Documents for Visa Applications

To apply for a Namibian visa, travelers must provide the following:

  • A valid passport with at least six months of validity and a minimum of three blank pages.
  • A completed visa application form.
  • Proof of accommodation, such as a hotel reservation or an invitation letter.
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover the stay.
  • A detailed travel itinerary.
  • Travel or medical insurance.
  • For minors: A full birth certificate or a parental consent letter if traveling with children.
  • For online visa applicants: A printed copy of the approved eVisa.

Visa Fees and Validity

The visa fees and validity periods are as follows:

  • NAD 1,600 for citizens of non-African countries.
  • NAD 1,200 for citizens of African countries.
  • Tourist visas are valid for 90 days from the date of issue.

Upon meeting all entry requirements, travelers will receive a visitor entry permit at the port of entry, valid for up to 90 days per calendar year, depending on the requested duration of stay.

Implications for African Travel Professionals

The introduction of Namibia’s visa on arrival system presents significant opportunities for African travel agents and tour operators. With streamlined entry processes, Namibia is likely to attract more visitors, particularly from neighboring African countries and key international markets. Travel professionals can leverage this development to promote Namibia as a convenient and accessible destination for both leisure and business travelers.

Namibia’s diverse attractions, from the iconic dunes of Sossusvlei to the wildlife-rich Etosha National Park, make it a prime destination for eco-tourism and adventure travel. The new visa system will enhance the country’s appeal, encouraging more travelers to explore its unique landscapes and cultural heritage.
